As a part of a duo art exhibition my paintings were displayed at Tangerine, Chennai in April 2008. Having been my first series of theme paintings, they dealt with women in the present day scenario. I don’t consider myself to be an obsessive feminist, but I do have a deep respect for womanhood. The paintings revolved around the “Tilak” and “Thali”, perfect symbols of women in Hindu culture.. They were not meant to give a religious connotation, but rather serve as a direct means of communicating the power of the symbols themselves.

Reflecting on my paintings, I now feel that they in many ways express my own persona. Living in the overwhelming nature of today’s world with its chaos and robotic lifestyles, yet embracing and appreciating the greatness and humility of our culture and tradition, these paintings are all about celebrating the various faces and character of the new age women…
